Secure Shopping

We here at spareforhome.co.uk view security as probably one of the most significant concerns for both the shopper and the retailer during an online transaction. We believe an online transaction is probably more secure than a card transaction in a shop or conducted over the telephone or by fax, as the information transmitted online is strongly encrypted using complicated algorithm combinations.

For this we have enlisted the proficient services of WorldPay which is a partner company to the Royal Bank of Scotland the worlds 5th largest bank.

Using WorldPay their payment system uses a combination of both established and innovative techniques to ensure the security and integrity of all sensitive data. Their public web servers are certified by Thawte, a public Certificate Authority, ensuring that both you the shopper and us the retailer can have confidence that nobody can impersonate WorldPay to obtain confidential information.

Purchase Detail Encryption

The transfer of your purchase details to our site through WorldPay are encapsulated using encrypted and digitally-signed protocol. This uses a combination of standard methods such as PGP, RSA and MD5 to ensure that the information passed is secure and tamper-proof via SSL.

What is SSL?

Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is a protocol developed by Netscape in 1996 which quickly became the method of choice for securing data transmissions across the Internet. SSL is an integral part of most web browsers and web servers and makes use of the public and private key encryption algorithm developed in 1977 by Ron Rivest, Adi Shamir and Leonard Adelman (RSA).

Shopper security

All communication between you the shopper and WorldPay is encrypted to the maximum strength supported by the shopper's browser using 128 Bit SSL.

You are also protected from fraudulent use of your card in a "card not present" environment, by your card issuers. Your card issuers provide the right for you to dispute a transaction if the goods/services did not arrive or if the card was used fraudulently.

Data Storage

The storage of your data on WorldPay systems, and the communication between WorldPay and the worldwide banking networks, is regularly audited by the banking authorities to ensure a secure transaction environment.

This ensures that WorldPay stay up-to-date with the latest versions of any third-party code used, and continually review their own proprietary code.
